Most Americans oppose torture.

Um, yay? Nevertheless, slightly more than a third Americans believes torture is acceptable in some cases, and slightly less than half of all Americans believes abuse is acceptable in some cases.

Notably, there are big differences between men (44% believe torture is acceptable in some cases) and women (27%), between Republicans (41%), Independents (38%), and Democrats (27%), and between whites (37%) and blacks (19%).
