Better now than later.

As expected, some conservative Democrats recently drawn into Republican districts (by those damn activist judges!) have switched parties. Representative Ann Purcell of Effingham switched, and today, Representative Tommy Smith of Alma and Representative Bob Lane of Statesboro announced their decisions to switch to the Republican Party.

Meanwhile, Sonny's call for a special session has had the intended effect - to keep Democratic incumbents from their districts in what will likely be competitive elections. Democratic Senator Carol Jackson, of Cleveland, has announced that she will not seek re-election, as "she will have little chance to introduce herself to the voters of the new district," according to the AP.
